FRC (or FIRST Robotics Competition) is a worldwide high school organized by FIRST. Every year, robotics teams from various high schools use a time period of six weeks to build a robot to compete with. That robot must fit all the restrictions that are set by FIRST in the Game Manual and be able to complete multiple tasks. The robot typically weighs approximately 120 pounds (depending on the team and year). Over 1,800 high school teams competed in 2010 with over 45,000 students. Along with the US, countries such as Brazail, Canada, The Netherlands, Israel, the UK and Mexico also participate. At Kickoff, each team is given a standard set of parts and game details. Kickoff typically takes place in early January and the robot must be shipped by February 22nd. Their finished robot must be able to be guided by wireless controls and also be able to perform certain tasks autonomously. For more information about FRC, visit this link. |
